Hi, I’m katrina ham.

With 40 years of experience as a Nurse and Midwife, I have learned to appreciate a balanced approach to birth that incorporates both medical and alternative practices.

My perspective has evolved over my career leading me to share my experience, knowledge and skills to promote a more positive view of birth. Gone are the days of my mother’s generation – wherein she used to say: “I don’t know why you need to teach anyone how to birth - don’t you just do it?”

Unlike my mother’s generation, who believed birth required no teaching, today’s technology and research offers us many advancements and access to information.

So, if you are seeking education, or physical balance leading up to your special day and beyond, then my hope is you will find what you need here.

my purpose

My purpose here is to aid in physical balance but also foster emotional healing, providing a holistic approach to prenatal care. The benefits of releasing tension in the pelvic region extend beyond childbirth, enhancing overall well-being, reducing stress, and improving body awareness.

My experience

We’ve become fearful, anxious, risk-averse, competitive, and prone to extremes in medicine and alternatives, often missing the balanced middle ground. With 30 years as a Midwife, I reflect on how much I’ve learned.

Through experiential observation (working in a busy Birthing unit), ongoing learning from countless women and exceptional mentors that have enriched my perspective on birth, to Calmbirth teachings, and utilising skills from the ‘Spinning Babies Aware’ practices and Internal Pelvic release training – I have seen first-hand the impact great education and self-care practices can have on couples and their birth experiences.

As birth trauma becomes increasingly prevalent and often linked to medical interventions (which definitely have their place), my aim is to bring more balance to the culture of birth.

The outcome

By incorporating techniques such as Calmbirth Education and Internal Pelvic Release Work, we can create a nurturing environment that empowers women to embrace the transformative journey of pregnancy and childbirth informed with confidence and calm. These practices honour the intricate relationship between mind, body, and spirit, highlighting the importance of integrated care for expectant mothers, in collaboration with chosen professionals.

Through gentle, mindful interventions, we can support the natural rhythms of the body and enhance the birthing experience, promoting a sense of ease and connection that resonates deeply within. Embracing these methods allows us to reclaim the beauty and power of birth, transforming it into a celebration of life and love.
